Absolutely! My clients love it. No wasted drive time, spouses can be in 2 locations if necessary, and it allows for lunch hour or nap time convenience. Careful attention to audio cues along with frequent checking in make up for the lack visual interaction.
Just like in an office session, we begin and end within the hour (50min). You will call into my office at the start of the session. You will be asked to find a quiet, private place and let others know you are unavailable. Of course if you have young children you do the best you can and I certainly understand. You will be asked to fill out paperwork before we begin and if you live close enough we can do the first session in person.
Unfortunately, I do not. Insurance companies require me to share your personal information with them, which then becomes part of your medical record in the system. Private counseling remains private except under a few conditions required by law, such as being a danger to yourself or others.
No, it is perfectly common, healthy and normal to get counseling for a variety of reasons. Counseling will give you a framework and tools to work through whatever is going on--these tools can generally be applied to a variety of situations that will most likely repeat themselves in other ways.
